This project was about creating your own children’s book. I had to design my own characters, story, backgrounds, and moral. I decided to make my story about an elephant who is allergic to peanuts. My moral behind my story is that some people may have allergies to certain foods but we shouldn’t treat them differently for it, and we should be accepting to all.  I thought to portray this through elephants and peanuts because when I was younger I was completely under the impression that elephants only ate peanuts and what better way to show this moral through using cute animals. Many young children have a nut allergy and I hope this is a way that children can see that we should be kind about their differences. I created this assignment in Adobe InDesign.

Throughout this process of creating this short story, I learned that a lot goes into planning the illustrations and story. I never really thought that far into it when I was reading some of my favorite children’s books. I also learned how to portray my message in a way that young children would understand. I had to choose certain diction that would be simple enough for young children but also portraying a serious morale. Lastly, I learned how to use Indesign to create my designs. I am used to doing many things in Illustrator and this was a challenge for me, but I was able to work between both to create a nice design.
